Sump, Sewage, Effluent, and Dewatering Pumps

Pump will not start or run
Check fuse, low voltage, overload open, open or incorrect wiring, open switch, impeller or seal bound mechanically, motor or wiring shorted. Float assembly held down. Switch, damaged or out of adjustment.

Motor overheats and trips overload or blows fuse
Incorrect voltage, negative head (discharge open lower than normal) impeller or seal bound mechanically, motor shorted.

Pump starts and stops too often
Float switch tether length too short, check valve stuck open, or none installed in long distance line, overload open, bidding, sump pit too small.

Pump will not shut off
Debris under float assembly, float bound by basin sides or other, switch, damaged or out of adjustment.

Pump operates but delivers little or no water
Check inlet, strainer housing, discharge pipe, and vent holes for obstructions. Discharge head exceeds pump capacity. Low or incorrect voltage. Incoming water containing air or causing air to enter pumping chamber. Incorrect motor rotation. (3 phase pumps only)

Drop in head and/or capacity after a period of use
Increased pipe friction, clogged line or check valve. Abrasive material and adverse chemicals could possibly deteriorate impeller and pump housing. Check line. Remove base and inspect.

Tank or fittings leak
Carefully tighten pipe joints (use pipe dope) and screws. Check gasket location, tighten lid evenly. Do not over tighten fittings or screws.

Pump will not start or run
Blown panel or circuit breaker fuse, low voltage, thermal overload open, defective capacitor circuit, cutter clogged, damaged hydraulic stator or rotor, float switch held down or defective, incorrect wiring in control panel, water in cap assembly, check valve not installed or malfunctioning.

Motor overheats and trips on overload
Incorrect voltage, hydraulic rotor or cutter blocked, negative head (discharge lower than intake of pump). Defective “off” float. Pump runs continuously at low water level. Low oil level in motor shell. Pump running at shut-off head, check valve not installed or malfunctioning.

Pump will not shut off
Debris under float assembly, defective switch, incoming sewage exceeds capacity of pump.

Pump operates but delivers little or no water
Intake clogged with grease or sludge, damaged hydraulic stator or rotor, low or incorrect voltage, clogged discharge line, operating near shut-off head.

Pump starts and stops too often
Check valve stuck open or defective. Sump pit too small to handle incoming sewage. Level control out of adjustment. Thermal overload tripping.

Large red flashing light comes on at control box
High water in pit. Check pump for clogging, or overload trip.

Grease and solids accumulate in pit around pump
Break up solids and run pump with water running into the pit. Allow level to lower to the pump intake. Continue until solids are cleared from the pit. Do not drain kitchen grease down the sink.

Pump will not start or run
Check fuse, low voltage, overload open, open or incorrect wiring, open switch, impeller or seal bound mechanically, defective capacitor or relay when used, motor or wiring shorted. Float assembly held down. Switch defective, damaged, or out of adjustment.

Motor overheats and trips overload or blows fuse
Incorrect voltage, negative head (discharge open lower than normal) impeller or seal bound mechanically, defective capacitor or relay, motor shorted.

Pump starts and stops too often
Float tight on rod, check valve stuck or none installed in long distance line, overload open, level switch(s) defective, sump pit too small.

Pump will not shut off
Debris under float assembly, float or float rod bound by pit sides or other, switch defective, damaged or out of adjustment.

Pump operates but delivers little or no water
Check strainer housing, discharge pipe, or if check valve is used vent hole must be clear. Discharge head exceeds pump capacity. Low or incorrect voltage. Incorrect motor rotation. Capacitor defective. Incoming water containing air or causing air to enter pumping chamber.
